Homeowners with saltwater pools have an advantage in that they do not have to purchase chlorine anymore. That is because salt water pools produce their chlorine through electrolysis. The pools also do not produce smelly chloramines. Salt water pools have low maintenance, meaning that you save some money.
Although they have low maintenance, you need to know how to maintain your saltwater pool to keep it in top shape. So, how can you maintain your saltwater pool to ensure you enjoy it for an extended period?
Three Things To Consider For Your Pool To Remain In An Excellent State
Salt water pools are easier to maintain when compared to traditional swimming pools. However, this does not mean that salt water pool maintenance and care should be done once every year. There are tasks that you must perform daily, monthly, and weekly. They include:
Daily Tasks
Ensure you make it a habit to clean the filters and swimming pool regularly. It will help you save money and time. Ensure you empty the pump basket and clean the skimmer with your salt water pool.
If there is any visible debris, skim them. Being diligent in these daily tasks will make monthly and weekly tasks easier while also saving you some cash.
Weekly Tasks
Ensure you test the free chlorine and pH of your salt water pool every week. There are test kits or strips that you can purchase from any pool supply shop in Las Vegas to perform these tests. Your salt water pool should have chlorine levels of 1-3ppm, while the pH levels should be about 7.2-7.6. if the levels of chlorine are off, adjust the generator. To regulate the pH levels in your pool, we recommend you use muriatic acid, sodium carbonate, or baking soda to raise it. For any pool supply in Las Vegas, contact us.
Monthly Tasks
There are four things you have to check in your pool monthly: the alkalinity, calcium, stabilizer, and salinity. The salinity of your pool should be about 2700-4500 ppm. However, there may be minor differences based on your pool model. If your generator does not come with a salt meter, you can buy one.
The proper levels of alkalinity are between 80-120 ppm. Use baking soda or muriatic acid to raise the alkalinity. Cyanuric acid is used as a stabilizer for the salt water pools. The stabilizer must be at 70-80 ppm of calcium to prevent corrosion and scaling.
Open and inspect the salt water cell every three months for deposits and scale buildup. If the salt water cell is clear of any debris, reinstall it, but if it has deposits and debris, use a high-pressure hose to flush it off. If this method does not come out, use a mild acid wash to remove them.
There are other maintenance practices such as winterizing your equipment and pool. Refer to your manual for the instructions on winterizing the salt chlorinator.
